Trades
A Conservative Government will prioritize increasing training opportunities for the next generation of workers. The "More Boots, Less Suits" initiative is part of our Bring It Home Economic Plan.
This plan will provide more training halls, direct grants, and faster EI access to apprentices in licensed trades to help them earn strong paycheques and reduce Canada’s dependence on the United States. Poilievre’s plan includes:

-
Reintroducing apprenticeship grants of up to $4,000. These grants were originally created by the previous Conservative government, but the Carney-Trudeau Liberals plan to cancel them at the end of the month, leaving Canadian workers behind.
-
Funding training halls to skill up 350,000 young workers over five years by expanding the Union Training and Innovation Program (UTIP). Conservatives will ensure that the buildings and centres where training takes place are also eligible for UTIP funding. Smaller unions will have equal access to funding, covering up to 75% of the costs associated with building and running these programs.
-
Creating a special class of rapid EI payout for skilled tradespeople by allowing union training centres and colleges to pre-register apprentices for EI. This will ensure trades workers receive the support they’re entitled to quickly.
-
Working with the provinces to harmonize health and safety regulations, enabling tradespeople to work anywhere in Canada without the need for redundant retraining.
